hmmmmm Thou shalt have no idols before Me. I thought that is clearly stated in the Ten Commandments.
The 2nd commanement of 10 says thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image. That can also refer to false images engraved on the mind.

this was probably the best one you have ever written, DB. So very true; and an idol is anything that takes your mind off of God (assuming one believes in God).

If anyone offers this to anything made from this earth they deserve all they get!
In the short term that may well be wealth as judged by earthly standards but will be worthless when this earthly life ends.
In the long term the soul must ask for more and seek eternity.
